We spend much of our time in looking for foci of infection, and their discovery and eradication often bring most gratifying results; conversely, overlooked foci produce many of the tragic and irreparable conditions that we frequently see in general practice. I refer to advanced cases of arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and patients with general deterioration of function and structure, caused apparently by months or even years of intoxication, or by the direct assault of germs lurking in concealed nests of infection.
